How to Get an Australia PR Invitation From the UK in 2026
The application process In the minds of most, the typical application process begins with a phone call or letter, but an application to apply for PR in Australia is a little more technical than that. When the invitation arrives, time begins to tick. Reports suggest: Invited applicants will have 60 days to submit a complete application via Immi Account, therefore it’s best to get your documents ready before you receive the invitation.
This month’s Australian invitation round (the last one we can verify) took place on the 4th of June 2026. 10,000 of these invitations were for subclass 189 – with a 65-point minimum. (Actual cut-off for this round is subject to the occupation, however.) The next invitation round is listed as being later around September 2026, but Home Affairs does not publish planned dates for next rounds.
What You Need in Place Before You Get Invited
You’re not going to be able to speed up the invitation process but you can optimise your profile when the round opens. Here’s what we check in with all of our UK clients:
An eligible job
Your occupation must be listed on the appropriate skilled occupation list for the visa subclass you are seeking.
Skills assessment positive
Your assessment by the correct assessing authority for your trade or profession has been positive.
You are less than 45 years old
You are less than 45 years old when you are asked to leave the main work area. The younger you are, the more points you get. 25 to 32 year olds get the most points.
Proof of English language
Having a UK passport usually fulfills the requirement of having competent English, but if you have a competent or superior test score, this may earn you additional points of 10-20.
With at least 65 points
That’s the legal minimum. Many professional jobs register between 80 and 95 in the last few rounds.
A live EOI
Active for two years and can be updated anytime you get a new English, work experience, or changes in family circumstances.
Clear documentation
Have police certificates (including UK police checks), identity documentation and employment references prepared in advance.

Published fee tables include the 189 primary applicant charge of A$6,135, A$3,070 for each additional adult and A$1,540 per child. Fees are based on the date your Home Affairs submitted the application so check the current amount on the Home Affairs website at point of payment. Skills assessments, English tests, medicals and police checks are additional.
Most of the delays that appear to us are preventable:
- And make sure you know the facts. Claiming points you cannot support. Overclaiming could result in a no after you’ve paid.
- Incorrect occupation code. Having a close variation can lead to the skills assessment not succeeding.
- Delay police and medical screening until after invitation. 60 days flies by.
- Skip state nomination. If you miss out on a score of 189, there could be an alternative.
- Thinking you missed the window for taking the test in English. A higher score will give you a leg up on the ranking process faster.
How to Build a Competitive Points Score for an AU PR Visa
65 points will get you into the pool but it may not be enough to get an invitation on its own. It’s your points score that determines your position in the queue and these small points can make a big difference. A better English result, another year of skilled work or a partner’s skills assessment can make the difference between being in the pool for ever or getting an invitation.

No. The 189 and 190 visas do not require a job offer. You are ranked on points, occupation and your skills assessment.
